Trustees

The Trustees of the Permaculture Trust of India are:

Dr Samantha Bhaware – an expatriate British national living full time in India since 2008. Samantha has an impressive academic background, having completed her PDC with the Permaculture Association of UK in 2006, her Biology Doctorate (Pond Biodiversity) through the University of Chester in 2005, and currently undergoing a Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design through the Permaculture Association of UK. Along with her husband, they have founded the Centre for Non-Violent Farming in Mohadi (Maharashtra) where they are also developing their own “transitional” permaculture farm and homestead.

Hans Peter Wuethrich – an expatriate Swiss national living full-time in India since 1974. Hans has developed his own organic Swiss-style Himalayan Mountain cheese making facilities in Manali (Himachal Pradesh) and is the official guardian and conservator of the extremely rare Bos Indica Himalayan miniature cow.

Yu Yu Din – has been involved with non-profits since she was a teenager handling projects from fund raising to establishing projects into sustainable organizations. At 16 she began her career with Globalvision Inc., a non-profit production company. A writer, editor and Internet marketer she is passionate about using social media for social change. Yu Yu is the founder of Renewable Spirit, a project to get solar energy into rural Myanmar, and she has been involved with a number of NGOs in India and abroad, including Independent Media Center, Student Voices for Peace, Elaan, and TCKid.

Sharwan Dev Sharma – an organic agriculturalist in Kullu Valley, high in the Himalayas of North India. Sharwan’s distinguished career included decorated  service within the Himachali police force, retiring as Deputy Inspector General (DIG). His farm has always produced organic products, and is now undergoing transition into a permaculture showcase farmlet in collaboration with the PRII Kullu campus.

Srinivas Rao Kaveti – an eminent international lawyer recognised in the USA, UK, Australia and India, with a highly successful practice in Manhattan, New York. He maintains his roots in the Telengana district of Andhra Pradesh, where he also operates his family law-firm in the city of Karimnagar.

Vic Gaffney – an expatriate Australian national living full-time in India since 1996. Vic has been proactively involved in advocating permaculture design systems and methodologies for more than 20 years, in both Australia and India. He is also noted in the fields of international immigration, law and education services, has launched a number of schools & educational institutions in India, and was involved with the Australian grassroots organisations Down to Earth movement and the Friends of the Earth organisation in the early days of their inception in the 1970′s.

Willam Benedict – an expatriate American national living in Thailand for many years, where along with his wife, they are currently redeveloping (transitioning) their land following permaculture principles. William is a frequent visitor to India, having also spent more than five years living in Orissa and New Delhi.
